The ASMO Internship Program

Marketing Intern
Social Media Intern
Writing Intern
Video Intern
Past Interns

Each semester ASMO signs on two interns—one marketing and one writing—to assist in a variety of projects, research, and writing. The positions are for academic credit only. The interns gain experience in several marketing areas, which may include video, design, and web work.

Marketing Intern
(Fall, summer, spring)

Marketing Interns will work closely with the Marketing director, project managers, writer, designers, and web developers in researching, interviewing, writing, editing, proofing, gathering information, photography, and benchmarking of various materials. They may also be responsible for researching blogs, YouTube, Facebook, and other social media. Candidates must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Internet browsers, and email systems. It is recommended that interns have completed BA 303 Marketing or BA 304 Management Administration classes. Juniors and seniors preferred. Good planners with strong interpersonal and communication skills are encouraged to apply. Strong verbal and written communication skills required.

For more information on the position, email Assistant Director Monica Kling or call 814-863-6146. To apply, email a resume and cover letter.

Social Media Intern
(Fall, spring)

Successful applicants will be knowledgeable and active in the social media community. This includes blogging, online community development, commenting, surveying, and extensive experience with popular social media. Tasks include daily community listening, maintenance, engagement, research, and responding to comments. Other key attributes include creativity, strategy, writing skills, and willingness to experiment. Applicants must be a junior or above and have a GPA of at least 3.0 to be considered.

For more information on the position, email Marketing Writer/Editor Jonathan McVerry or call 814-867-0037. To apply, email a resume and cover letter.

Writing Intern
(Fall, spring, summer)

With the rising demand for new media and services on the Internet, a new style of writer is needed to fill our hundreds of web pages with fresh, quick, and useful content. Interns will assist in writing press releases, promotional materials, web content, video scripts, and more. Applicants must have writing experience and a strong interest in creating content for several different media—especially the web and media relations. Candidates pursuing a Journalism degree or other Communications major with an emphasis in writing are encouraged to apply. Strong interview skills and experience with Microsoft Word are preferred. Knowledge of Chicago, AP, and University styles is a plus. It is recommended that interns have completed the COMM 260W News Writing and Reporting class. Juniors and seniors preferred.

For more information on the position, email Marketing Writer/Editor Jonathan McVerry or call 814-867-0037. To apply, email a resume, cover letter, and one writing sample.

Video Intern
(Fall, spring)

Applicants must be able to operate a Sony HDR-FX1000, as well as other various production equipment including tripods and lighting equipment. Applicants are required to have completed or are currently enrolled in COMM 242 Basic Video/Filmmaking and COMM 337 Theory and Practice of Production. COMM 440 Advanced Production Technology and Technique is also recommended, but not required.

Juniors and seniors are preferred. As well as assisting in video production, interns will also be asked to assist in other areas of our Marketing Office. Good communication skills with a strong sense of visuals are quality traits important to working in this environment. Strong writing skills are also required for this position.

Please submit a resume and cover letter. A portfolio or demo reel submission is also preferred. Send information to ASMO Videographer Tim Auman.
